Ombudsman Raid Uncovers Luxury Facilities at Cibinong Prison

The Ombudsman found apartment-style buildings inside Cibinong Prison. The complex sits apart from the blocks where inmates are held. It all came out during an unannounced inspection.

Ombudsman member Fikri Yasin called the facilities apartment standard. The units are small. The furniture is not. The inspection team also found a luxury car on the grounds.

Five Officials Suspended

The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections moved quickly. Five officials were pulled from their posts:

The suspensions are temporary. The Inspectorate General is running the internal review, with the correctional directorate and the ministry oversight office.

The Government's Explanation

The government has an answer. The West Java office of the Correctional Directorate says the buildings were meant for integration. They also serve as official residences for several posts.

Scrutiny in Parliament

Two parliamentary commissions have moved in. One will summon the Ombudsman and the Correctional Directorate for questioning. The other wants a full criminal probe.
