Website Checker — Complete Guide
This page collects the guides for 9 tools in one place. Pick a tool name from the list and its guide opens beside it, so there is no page to navigate to and no account to create.
Full Site Audit
Audit one URL for performance, SEO, accessibility, and security headers, then get a prioritised list of what to fix first.
How to use it
- Type the address of the page you want checked, usually your home page or the one you are working on.
- Press Audit and wait. A full audit calls Google PageSpeed Insights, so this takes 30 to 60 seconds rather than a second.
- Read the findings from the top. The first ones are the ones that change both the visitor experience and the search result at once.
- Open each finding to see the evidence, the fix, and the reference documentation behind it.
- Download the report as JSON, CSV, or PDF when you want to hand the work to somebody else.
Use cases
- Working out which of the twenty things a page needs fixing actually matters this week.
- Checking a page before you send a redesign live, so you know what the new build should not repeat.
- Showing a client or a colleague where the work is, with the evidence next to it.
- Comparing what a lab measurement says against what real visitors report.
Limitation — It measures one URL, not the whole site, and it does not crawl. Internal links, redirect chains across pages, and orphan pages are not part of this check. The accessibility results come from an automated audit, which cannot prove WCAG conformance, and the security results are a configuration check rather than a penetration test. The address you type is sent to Google PageSpeed Insights.
Check Everything
Run every website check at once: status, SSL, speed, headers, DNS, meta tags, and broken links.
How to use it
- Enter the address of the site you want the full report on.
- Press CHECK and let every check run in one go.
- Work down the report: is it up first, then the certificate, then the rest.
Use cases
- Running the full check before a launch, a move, or an address change.
- Putting one report in front of a host when something is wrong and nothing is obvious.
- Checking several parts of a site at once after a redesign.
Limitation — The check runs on our server, so it describes the site rather than your own connection to it.
Website Down Checker
Check if a website is up, read its status code, response time, and redirect chain. The check runs on our server.
How to use it
- Paste the address of the site you want to check.
- Press CHECK and wait a few seconds while we connect to it.
- Look at the badge: green means the site answered, red means it did not.
Use cases
- Finding out whether an outage is real before you tell anyone about it.
- Checking a site after it was moved, redeployed, or had its address changed.
- Confirming that a link you are about to share still opens.
Limitation — The check runs on our server, so it describes the site rather than your own connection to it.
SSL Checker
Read the SSL certificate of a site: who issued it, when it expires, and how many days are left.
How to use it
- Enter the domain, usually the same address you would type in a browser.
- Press CHECK to read the certificate from a live connection.
- Check the days left first, then who issued it.
Use cases
- Checking whether a certificate is close enough to expiry to renew now.
- Confirming that the certificate covers the name people actually type.
- Seeing whether a site offers the newer, safer versions of the connection.
Limitation — The check runs on our server, so it describes the site rather than your own connection to it.
Speed Test
See where a website response spends its time: DNS, TCP, TLS, and the request itself.
How to use it
- Enter the address of the page you want timed.
- Press CHECK and let the stages run.
- The biggest stage is where the waiting happened.
Use cases
- Working out whether a slow page is the site being slow or the connection being slow.
- Checking whether the wait is in the page or in the way the site is set up.
- Comparing two hosts before moving a site to one of them.
Limitation — The check runs on our server, so it describes the site rather than your own connection to it.
Check Headers
Read every header a website sends back, including its security headers.
How to use it
- Enter the address whose response you want to read.
- Press CHECK to fetch it and list everything it sends back.
- Scroll to the security lines, or copy the whole list into a support thread.
Use cases
- Debugging a page that will not load inside an app or an embedded page.
- Checking that the security instructions you added are actually being sent.
- Reading what a third-party service sends back before you trust it with anything.
Limitation — The check runs on our server, so it describes the site rather than your own connection to it.
DNS Lookup
Look up the A, AAAA, MX, NS, and TXT records of any domain.
How to use it
- Enter the domain name, without the https:// part.
- Press CHECK to ask the name servers for its records.
- If you are waiting on a domain verification email, read the text records.
Use cases
- Checking where a domain points before and after a change.
- Confirming that an address change has spread to the rest of the world.
- Reading the text lines that hold a domain verification code.
Limitation — The check runs on our server, so it describes the site rather than your own connection to it.
Check Broken Links
Crawl a page and list the links that are dead or unreachable.
How to use it
- Enter the address of the page whose links you want to test.
- Press CHECK to collect the links and open each one.
- Fix the addresses listed as broken, then run it again.
Use cases
- Finding the dead links left behind after a site was reorganised.
- Checking that the links in a menu or a footer still work.
- Looking over the links on a page before sending it to someone.
Limitation — The check runs on our server, so it describes the site rather than your own connection to it.
Link Preview
Check the title, description, Open Graph, and Twitter tags that decide how your link looks when shared.
How to use it
- Enter the address of the page you want to inspect.
- Press CHECK to read the headline, summary, and picture tags.
- Add whatever the report lists as missing, then check again.
Use cases
- Fixing a link that shows up with no title or no picture in a chat app.
- Checking how a page will look before sharing it in a newsletter or a message.
- Confirming that the link points back at the page you meant.
Limitation — The check runs on our server, so it describes the site rather than your own connection to it.
The tools on this page examine websites from our server, not from your browser. Only the address you type is sent; no files, text, or other personal data travel with it. Because the check runs on a server, the numbers describe the site as seen from our data centre, not from your network.
