XML Beautifier

Format Android layout and manifest XML with proper indentation.

Loading tool…

XML Beautifier on Loonix helps you format AndroidManifest.xml and res/layout XML with proper indentation, leaving entities and CDATA untouched.

How to use

  1. Paste the manifest or layout XML.
  2. Run the formatter.
  3. Read the result back into Android Studio or your editor.

Features and limitations

  • Re-indents manifest and layout XML with the two-space indent Android Studio produces.
  • Leaves entities and CDATA untouched, because in Android XML those are often data rather than markup.
  • Works on the text XML you edit in the SDK, not the compiled binary manifest inside an APK.
  • Runs entirely in the browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Limitation: Re-indents only. It does not validate against the Android schema, so an attribute name that does not exist will still be formatted as if it were valid.

Use cases

  • Read a minified manifest that arrived through a bug report.
  • Diff two layout files where indentation differences bury the real change.
  • Tidy generated XML before pasting it into a question or an issue.

Frequently asked questions

Usage, result, and limitation information for this tool.

Does it modify my XML?
It only re-indents. Entities and CDATA sections are left exactly as they are, which matters because in Android XML those are often data rather than markup.
Will it accept an Android manifest?
Yes. A compiled APK manifest is binary, but the XML you edit or read in the SDK is text, and that is what this formats.
What indentation does it use?
Two spaces, which is the Android convention and what the layout editor produces.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Formatting happens in the browser.
