Angle Converter

Convert degrees to radians and radians to degrees, with a degrees-minutes-seconds reading.

Loading tool…

Angle Converter turns degrees into radians and radians back into degrees. Alongside the number you asked for, it prints both values at once and, when the result is in degrees, the same angle written out in degrees, minutes, and seconds. Degrees and radians were separate tools because they were separate directions of one formula.

How to use

  1. Enter the angle.
  2. Choose the units to convert from and to.
  3. Read the result, plus a degrees-minutes-seconds form when you converted to degrees.

Features and limitations

  • Converting between degrees and radians does not round twice, so a round trip returns the value you started with.
  • Both units are shown at once regardless of which one you asked for.
  • Degrees carry a degrees-minutes-seconds reading for anyone reading an angle rather than calculating one.
  • The unit selectors make the two-directions problem explicit instead of leaving you to pick the right tool.

Limitation: Covers degrees and radians only. Gradians, turns, and milliradians are not included, and the value is rounded to six decimals rather than kept at full floating-point precision.

Frequently asked questions

Usage, result, and limitation information for this tool.

What is the formula?
Degrees multiplied by pi divided by 180. Radians multiplied by 180 divided by pi. That is the whole conversion.
What is degrees-minutes-seconds for?
It is how angles are written when a number is not enough, such as coordinates. 90.5 degrees becomes 90 degrees 30 minutes 0 seconds, which is the same angle written differently.
Does it handle gradians?
No. Degrees and radians only. Gradians exist in surveying and the printing industry, and adding them would mean carrying three flags around for a conversion most people do twice.
Is the result exact?
It is rounded to six decimal places. That is well past what any screen shows and short of pretending a float is a real number.
